Plan Update 2008 Comprehensive Plan Presentation
Monthly public meetings are currently underway with a new
steering committee consisting of zoning officials and interested
residents of Genoa Township. The
Township initiated the first update of the Comprehensive Plan in
2003 when it contracted with the Director of the Delaware County
Regional Planning Commission for professional planning consultation.
Every third Wednesday of the month the steering committee
meets to discuss proposed revisions and share ideas.

History
of Genoa Township Zoning Genoa Township adopted
its first Zoning Resolution in 1952. Since then, the zoning code
has gone through a gradual evolution. The
first local zoning code applied only to the land on the east side
of Hoover Reservoir. Four years later a separate code was adopted
for the western half of Genoa Township. In 1987 the township began
experiencing a large surge in development and the two existing zoning
codes previously created were combined into one all–encompassing
set of zoning regulations. Ongoing review and revision of the Zoning
Resolution has resulted in today’s expansive zoning document.
The township adopted its Comprehensive Land Use
Plan in 1999. This “visionary”
zoning document was created by a steering committee of volunteer
township residents from a wide variety of backgrounds.
It established a policy for future growth based on community
goals and objectives and has helped guide local development decisions
ever since. |
